Chapter Fifteen

Gabe

Samir sauntered into the kitchen several hours later. “Let’s go.”

“Where?”

“To find a goddess who will have me. We’ll keep killing them until one agrees. One will see the wisdom in the plan.”

For a minute I saw the future. The one where I killed over and over again for this evil man. I couldn’t do this. I had to end this now. All it would take was thirty seconds of his unconsciousness, and I could find that sickle.

I hauled off and punched him. Samir stumbled back and held his jaw. Dammit. He sneered at me. My fist connected with his gut, and he doubled over. I kneed him in the nose, and he went down. He would only be unconscious for a few seconds. I reached into his pockets and found Liv’s voodoo doll. I set it carefully aside. He had nothing else in that pocket. I went for the other one as he began to stir. I found my own doll, but no sickle.

This was my one shot at ending everything. After this, Samir would be too suspicious. I had to find it.

I drug the doll out anyway with one hand and felt his body with the other, searching for the familiar curve of the blade. Samir gripped my wrist. He grabbed the doll with his other hand and pressed a fingernail into the forehead. Blinding pain flashed through my brain, and I crumpled. Blackness clouded my vision. I could feel nothing but pain.

Suddenly, the agony disappeared. I blinked and stared into the menacing glare of Samir. He held my doll in one hand.

“That was a big mistake,” he growled.

He pinched the top of the head, and everything went dark.
